SOLE, the International Society of Logistics located in the United States and SOLEUROPE the International Society of Logistics - Europe located in Europe are two non-profit making professional educational associations both dedicated to promoting logistics worldwide. Although they are two separate organizations, one incorporated in 1966 under the laws of the State of California, the other one incorporated in 1991 under the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, both are strongly affiliated with each other. |
There are numerous commercial and business-oriented logistics technical societies in the United States and in Europe and other parts of the world. There is currently no other society that addresses Logistics from a total systems perspective, or addresses the life-cycle approach to logistics as it applies to defense systems, air and shipping lines, railways, fleets of trucks, the environment and space equipment, racing cars, television sets or complex radar and air traffic control systems, just to name a few. To help keeping all these systems in an operational mode as long as possible and at lowest costs is the main thrust of the activities of SOLE and SOLEUROPE. |
SOLEUROPE was established in 1991 as the European administrative branch of SOLE. Ever since, there has been a significant growth in the field of logistics within the European Community, which goes hand in hand with border crossing international co-operation, partnering and teaming among companies and countries while available resources have been dwindling at the purely national level. Therefore, a strong, well-integrated, central and locally administered, logistics network within Europe is required as an equal partner of SOLE in North America. SOLEUROPE has been tasked to provide increased support to the European members and to develop a "Centre of Excellence" for logistics within the European Community. |
The lifeblood of both organizations is an extensive network of districts and chapters. Districts represent the Society in the countries where they are established. Districts have at least one Chapter or more. Chapters are the first operational level of the society where the members are sharing their experience and logistical scientific culture Chapters are governed by their national laws and regulations, they have their legal identity and specific administration as defined in their statutes. Within their charters, Chapters expressly shares the goals and objectives of SOLE International. Being affiliated to the Society, they use the SOLE logo The SOLE members whether located in Europe or elsewhere in the world represent every reach of industry, government, commerce and education The SOLEUROPE umbrella currently covers Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Russia, Scandinavia, Spain and the United Kingdom. Additional chapters are planned in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Turkey. A Pan-Europe District has been established to accommodate individual and corporate members from countries other than those, which are already Districts. |
